Role of Astronomy and Technology in Moon Sighting for Islamic Year

Scientist and Astrologists of the Muslim world and especially of Pakistan could not introduce any technology or method for Lunar or Islamic calendar. That's why we are facing problems each year in choosing the exact dates of Eid and other Festivals of having religious importance for Muslims.

Ruet-e-Hilal (Roweit e Helal) Committee is headed over by Mufti Muneebur Rehman. Eid-ul-Fitar Festival is performed in Pakistan on different days, usually, it is on 2 different dates but it may also go up to 3. Majority of the people of NWFP and tribal areas celebrate this religious festival on the dates on which local scholars said. But rest of Pakistan and also a huge number of people from the NWFP also celebrate their Eid according to the dates of Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

Here the question is what is the solution of this conflict or dispute; some people say that we should follow Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Some other says that we should celebrate this one day after KSA and UAE. But the opinion of the majority of the Pakistanis is that we should follow our own Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. But another issue has been raised by MMA, a political party of NWFP. MMA says that there should be a separate Moon Sighting Committee in NWFP.

Why we don’t follow the setup of our federal government in this regard. And we are also making this religious festival a political issue!!!!!!

The government of Pakistan should form a Lunar Commission instead of Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which should comprise upon some famous Astrologists, Scientists, Researchers and Professional having expertise in Space. The commission should be funded without hurdles and it should use the latest technology. Maybe in this way, we resolve this problem. having religious significance!!!!!
