If unfortunately your mobile is stolen or you lost your mobile phone, you can make it unusable by blocking it using its IMEI number. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) in collaboration with mobile service provider companies (Mobilink, Ufone, Zong, Warid, Telenor) has launched blocking snatched/ stolen mobile phones by using IMEI number of the mobile phone. With this service, you can make your mobile set blocked/ ineffective making it useless for anyone else.
What is IMEI?
It is International Mobile Equipment Identification Number. It is a 15 digit number which is unique to every GSM handset. Even if sim is changed, this number will be not be changed. It is used by the mobile networks to identify valid devices so can be used to stop a stolen phone from accessing the network.
How to get IMEI Number?
Just dial *#06# to get IMEI number and note down this number in a secure place. It can also be found underneath battery and on warranty card.

They will ask you some information (e.g. your mobile's IMEI number, mobile number, name, CNIC number, address and contact number) and will request all mobile operators to block this IMEI number on their network.
Through this system your mobile set become inoperative but for the recovery of your set please report to the nearest police station. By using IMEI number, Police may work with mobile service providers to locate a lost or stolen mobile phone.
Check Online PTA Record, Before Buying a Used Mobile Phone
If you are going to buy a used mobile phone, you should check its record by visiting following website of PTA. Just enter 15 digit IMEI code and it will show, if it is a stolen mobile phone and has been timely reported to PTA.
