It is the hot news of these days that Punjab Government has announced to distribute 100,000 free laptop computers among talented students of public sector universities, colleges and BISE (Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education).

Free Laptops for Talented Students of Punjab, Pakistan

Government of Punjab has set many examples for other provinces of Pakistan by taking pioneer steps in many fields. Now, Government of Punjab has taken an other awesome step for the growth of IT in Pakistan by offering 100,000 Free Laptops to talented students of Punjab This program is worth about 2 billion rupees.

Update (28 May, 2012) : Government of Punjab extended free laptops program to Evening Students too. Now students of Evening Programs can also get free laptop from Government of Punjab. Click here for more details.

Free Laptops for Students of Punjab

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

For MS/ LLM/ M. Phil/ Ph. D Students

All currently enrolled students/scholars of MS, LLM, M. Phil and Ph. D are eligible.

For Master Degree (2 years) Program

Post-graduate students of 2 year Masters Degree Program with at least 60% marks in the previous year (in case of annual examination system) or at least 70% in the previous semester (in case of semester system) are eligible.

For BS Degree (4 years) Program

Students of 4years BS degree program with at least 60% marks in previous year (in case of annual examination system) or at least 70% marks in previous semester (in case of semester system) are eligible. 

For Students of Engineering Universities and Medical Colleges

Students of Engineering Universities and Medical Colleges with at least 60% or above marks in the previous year (in case of annual examination system) or at least 70% in the previous semester (in case of semester system) are eligible.

For Students of Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education of Punjab

Top 100 students of each Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education of Punjab are eligible.

Note:

1. If you think you are eligible and have not been selected or have any other grievances, kindly contact the respective Principal of the College / Registrar of the University / Secretary of the Board.
2. If you have not provided your CNIC/B Form no., please immediately provide the same through Principal of College / Registrar of University / Secretary of the Board, to become eligible for registration.
3. In case of 1st year students, the data for the last examination in which the student appeared, shall be considered.
4. This program is available to only students of Public Sector universities, colleges and boards of Punjab. Private Sector universities and colleges are not included.

Pakistan ranked 134 as Transparency International's Corruption Index 2011

Transparency International - A Brief Introduction

Transparency International is a well known civil society organization which struggle against corruption. Its missions is to create change towards corruption free world. It was established in 1993. Its international secretariat is in Berlin, Germany while its Pakistan office is in Karachi. 

CPI Corruption Perceptions Index

TI publishes CPI (Corruption Perceptions Index) annually. CPI is formed by countries' perceived level of corruption determined by surveys and experts evaluations from 0~10 while 0 shows highly corrupt and 10 shows very clean. In 2011 Transparency International measures CPI for 183 countries around the world.

Pakistan scored 2.5 out of 10 and ranked at number 134 from 182 countries. Bangladesh, India, China and Iran have better ranking as per CPI 2011 report.

Pakistan's CPI Score 2003~2011

Above graph shows that Pakistan's ranking is better than 2010. It was also 2.5 in year 2009 and 2004. Score was at its peak in 2003 while lowest score was seen in 2005 and 2006.

CPI 2011 - Summary

New Zealand, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Singapore, Norway, Netherlands, Australia, Switzerland and Canada are Top 10 Corruption Free Countries. US on 24 , UAE on 28, Saudi Arabia on 57, Turkey on 61, South Africa on 64, India on 95, Bangladesh & Iran on 120, Pakistan & Lebanon on 134 and Russia on 143. According to TI's CPI 2011 Somalia, North Korea, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Sudan, Iraq, Haiti and Venezuela are the Top 10 Corrupt Countries of the World.

Note: High Score means less corruption while Higher Rank means more corruption.
