RGST Approved in Senate
Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST) has been approved by Senate Assembly of Pakistan. RGST Bill was presented by Standing Committee for Finance. Today on 26th November, 2010 this bill is passed by Senate in its second session after Jumma Prayer. Debate and discussion was made on this bill in Senate as per law. Opposition and some government’s coalition parties also opposed GST Reforms Bill while members of PML-Q walk out from House. Now this GST Reform bill will be sent to National Assembly for approval.

It is interesting to know that PPPP is in very much favor of this RGST Bill and they want to approve it any cast. While opposition parties, civil societies and public are against this bill as they think that after the implementation of this bill, burden of inflation on poor will be almost doubled.

RGST is not a new tax but it is a revised/reformed form of General Sales Tax. And according to news, it will add other products and services in GST Net.

Load Shedding Free Pakistan – PEPCO

Load Shedding Ended in Pakistan

PEPCO (Pakistan Electric Power Company), which is responsible with other subsidiary companies (GEPCO, MEPCO, FESCO, LESCO, IESCO etc) for distribution of electricity in whole Pakistan except Karachi, claimed today that load shedding from whole Pakistan has been ended. At the time being, domestic consumers along with industries including Textile Industry, Ghee Industry, Flour Industry and Cement Industry are included in this so called “Load Shedding Free Environment”. Commercial Feeders will be scheduled for a load shedding of only 1 hour daily. Director General PEPCO said that they are trying very hard to give an end to electric load shedding, totally and permanently.

It is also being reported that 4 power plant units will also connected to national grid in near future, which are closed from some time.
But still, there is load shedding of 8~10 hours in Karachi. KESC (Karachi Electric Supply Corporation) is solely responsible for electric supply in Karachi. KESC said that it is hard for them to decrease electricity short fall due to the shortage of gas supply.
It seems that this continuity of electric supply in Pakistan has become possible only due to the change in weather and not due to any management tactic or any development of PEPCO, WAPDA or any other government department. Air Conditioners are not being used at homes or offices these days due to winter season so thousands of Mega Watts Electricity is saved which is automatically result in continuous power supply. Government is requested to make some permanent arrangements to imprison this giant of load shedding.

IPI Iran-Pakistan-India and IP Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline Project

Iran-Pakistan-India Gas Pipeline

Iran-Pakistan-India Gas Pipeline or simply IPI Project is also called “Peace Project”. Many companies from different countries are interested in IPI Pipeline Project; Gazprom (Russia), BHP Billiton (Australia), PETRONAS (Malaysia), Total (France), Royal Dutch Shell, BG Group and GAIL India.
Route for IPI Pipeline was proposed from South Pars Oil Field Iran to Khuzdar, Karachi, Multan and then to New Delhi. 7.5 Billion US Dollars total cost was estimated. And the project was to be started in 2009 and completed in 2013. 2775 km of 56 inches pipeline was to be laid down.
But due to the influence of USA, India has detached itself from IPI Pipeline.

IP Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline

After separation of India, now there are only two partners of pipeline project, so it has been renamed as IP Iran-Pakistan Pipeline Project. Iran and Pakistan signed Gas Sales and Purchase Agreement on 06 June, 2009. Some of the key points of this agreement are:
Iran will supply 750 MMSCFD gas to Pakistan for 25 years.
Project was to be started in September 2009 and target date for completion is June 2014.
Route for Iran Pakistan Pipelines will be Iran-Gwadar-Bhong.
Total length of the IP Pipeline is 2100 kilometers. Iran has completed its 1100 km pipeline and Pakistan has yet to start.
Diameter of pipeline has been reduced to 42 inches. Pakistan has to spend an amount of approximately 3.5 Billion Dollars. Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited Pakistan, Sui Southern Gas Company Limited Pakistan, The National Iranian Gas Company Iran and Khatam ol Anbia Company Iran are responsible for the erection of pipeline.
250% increase in gas consumption in Pakistan is expected. Iran has to support its week economy and Pakistan is in need of natural gas.

History of IPI Pipeline

Lt. Colonel Malik Aftab Ahmed Khan, a Civil Engineer of Military College of Engineering, Risalpur conceived this idea in 1950. He named it “Persian Pipeline”. Ex. Foreign Minister of Iran Ali Shams Ardekani and Rajendra Pachauri DG of TATA Energy Research Institute discussed this concept. In 1993 an MOU was signed between India and Iran. But after the participation of Pakistan in 1994, the project became feasible.

USA Role in IPI Pipeline

USA has sanctioned ban on Iran under Iran/Libya Sanction Act 1996. USA has been succeeded to detach India from IPI Pipeline. USA has proposed an alternative gas supply to South Asia from Central Asia; this project is called TAPI Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India Pielines.

Russian and Chinese Role in IPI Pipeline

Russian, Iran and Pakistan want multi-polarity system in the world. Europe depends on Russia for its 41% gas requirements.
China is already considering an oil pipeline from Middle East to West China through a shortest route from Pakistan. China has played a key role in the development of Iranian South Pars Oil Field. If China becomes a partner of this pipeline project then financing will become a “Non Issue” for Pakistan and Pakistan will also earn revenue from the transit of gas through its territory.

Iranian Electricity Transmission

Iran has also offered to build an electricity transmission line from Iran to Pakistan, India and China. Iran has also interested to supply electricity to Bangladesh.

Baluchistan and IP Pipeline Project

Peaceful Baluchistan is too much necessary for the successful completion and coming into operation of this project. BLA (Baluchistan Liberation Army) and other militant groups can be dangerous for it.
Trans-National Gas Pipeline will give strength to Pakistani Economy and Baluchistan Province will also be developed through this project. A Technical Institute and an Engineering University should be urgently built in Baluchistan and graduates from this institute and University should be employed in this project. And a comprehensive share from the income of this pipeline may also be used for the development of Baluchistan.

Babri Masjid vs Ram Janmbhoomi Temple Case Decision- Ayodhya Verdict Latest News

Babri Masjid vs Ram Janmbhoomi Temple Case Decision
Lucknow Bench Allahabad High Court gives verdict over Babri Mosque vs Ram Temple on Thursday 30 September, 2010. Justice Sharma, Justice SU Khan and Justice Sudhir Agarwal were the member of judicial bench. The case of Sunni Waqf Board has been dismissed by the court and the total disputed land of the mosque has been divided in to three parts; 1/3 to Muslims, 1/3 to Hindu Mahasabha, 1/3 to Nirmohi Akhara(another Hindu Institution). The Court has accepted the presence of a temple prior to the construction of Babri Masjid over it.

Ram Temple’s Issue was very old and it has draw many riots between Muslims and Hindus of India. This issue is almost 60 years old but case was put into the court in 1992 after Hindu’s attack on Babri Masjid.
Hindu political parties and organizations welcomed the Allahabad Court's verdict on Ram Janam Bhoomi - Babri Masjid land dispute. But advocate of Sunni Waqf Board Mr.Zafaryab Gillani said that they are not satisfied with the decision and will go to the Supreme Court to make an appeal against the decision.
Mohammad Hashim Ansari said that his group has already said that they would accept the court verdict. He, however, added that t the next course of action will be decided by Sunni Waqf Board, All India Muslim Personal Law Board and Babri Masjid Action Committee.

There was strict security all over the India especially in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmadabad, Lucknow, Bhopal etc, about a hundred thousand policemen was deployed only in the Allahabad. Muslims and Hindu leaders have appealed to the public for peace.

History of Babri Masjid/ Babri Mosque
Babri Masjid is a mosque in Ayodhya, a city in the Faizabad district of Uttar Pradesh, on Ramkot Hill ("Rama's fort"). It was destroyed in 1992 when a political rally developed into a riot involving 150,000 people, despite a commitment to the Indian Supreme Court by the rally organizers that the mosque would not be harmed. More than 2,000 people were killed in ensuing riots in many major Indian cities including Mumbai and Delhi. The mosque was constructed in 1527 by order of Babur, the first Mughal emperor of India. Before the 1940s, the mosque was called Masjid-i Janmasthan ("mosque of the birthplace") acknowledging the site as the birthplace of the Hindu deity, Lord Rama. The Babri Mosque was one of the largest mosques in Uttar Pradesh, a state in India with some 31 million Muslims. Although there were several older mosques in the surrounding district, including the Hazrat Bal Mosque constructed by the Shariqi kings, the Babri Mosque became the largest, due to the importance of the disputed site. Despite its size and fame, the mosque was little used by the Muslim community of the district and numerous petitions by Hindus to the courts resulted in Hindu worshippers' of Rama gaining access to the site. The political, historical and socio-religious debate over the history and location of the Babri Mosque and whether a previous temple was demolished or modified to create it is known as the Ayodhya Debate.
Reference for History: Wikipedia

My Statement over Ayodhya Verdict:
Ayodhya Verdict is an example of injustice and prejudice of Indian government against Muslims of India. This land is of Babri Masjid and giving it to Hindus or dividing it into 3 parts is not fair. Supreme Court of India should alter the decision and give the charge of Babri Masjid to Muslims.
